Ruth, a Moabite, is the widow of a Jewish man. She accompanies her widowed mother-in-law, Naomi, back to Israel during a famine in Moab. They are destitute and depend on others for their survival.
Ruth’s character is noticed by Boaz, the kinsman-redeemer for Naomi’s late husband’s family. Boaz and Ruth marry and among her descendants is King David and Jesus Messiah.
Ruth is a picture and example of God’s care, provision, and redemption for His people Israel as well as Gentiles who seek Him.
